Salzburg Foundation

The Salzburg Foundation is a private initiative devoted to art in the public space. Since 2002, a number of distinguished artists have executed outdoor projects. Anselm Kiefer (2002), Mario Merz (2003), Marina Abramovic (2004), Markus Lüpertz (2005), James Turrell (2006), Stephan Balkenhol (2007) and Anthony Cragg (2008) have developed works of art in and for the city to this point. All of these projects were financed by the Salzburg Foundation without resort to public funding.

This summer the French artist Bernar Venet is presenting a group of his signature steel sculptures at the “Krauthügel” in Salzburg. Monumental Lines, Arcs - segments of circles - and spiral forms (Indeterminate Lines) are transforming the area in a temporary sculpture park, revealing for the spectator a new perspective on the impressive landscape below the Salzburg castle. Additionally, another sculpture is installed in the city center in front of the Mozarteum. The sculpture exhibition is on display until 31 August and has been organized – independently of the Salzburg Artproject - in close cooperation with the Foundation for Art and Culture, Bonn. Access for visitors is free of charge.
